DPC & Health Insurance

Direct Primary Care can be a great alternative to the traditional healthcare system for many different patients. However, insurance is often still necessary for DPC patients.

Since Direct Primary Care cannot offer specialty or extreme emergency care, patients are strongly encouraged to buy some form of insurance, usually catastrophic. Catastrophic Insurance is a low-premium and high deductible health plan that is meant to protect against major health expenses. Direct Primary Care works perfectly with this plan because it takes care of 90% of your normal health expenses.

For specialty care, many Direct Primary Cares have different options, but for the most part, they will refer you to a specialist to receive care. However, they also provide many services that would normally be outsourced at traditional healthcare practices, including many procedures, labs, and other exams.

In the future, Direct Primary Care hopes to be able to operate without a need for health insurance, either by incorporating an insurance model or specialty care model.

If you believe Direct Primary Care would benefit you, I encourage you to seek out a DPC near you!
